Differences in the Working Alliance according to Counselor¡¯s Overt Narcissism, Covert Narcissism and Focusing Manner

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in working alliances. The results were verified according to each cluster type by classifying clusters according to the level of overt narcissism and focusing manner, covert narcissism and focusing manner as perceived by the counselor. For the purpose of the current study, data from 295 counselors, was collected and then analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program. The results of this study are as follows, First, there was a significant correlation in overt narcissism, covert narcissism, focusing manner, and the working alliance. Second, as a result of analyzing the clusters according to overt narcissism and the focusing manner of counselors, four clusters were identified and classified. Third, as a result of analyzing the clusters according to covert narcissism and focusing manner of counselors, four clusters were identified and classified. Fourth, the data analysis verified the differences in the clusters¡¯ with working alliance, as classified by overt narcissism and focusing manner. Fifth the data analysis verified the differences in the clusters¡¯ with working alliance, as classified by covert narcissism and focusing manner. As such, this study is significant in that it explored in depth the effect of the combination of overt narcissism, and covert narcissism which are variables of personality characteristics and focusing manner which is a variable of professional characteristics in terms of the working alliance.
